Mini-Grant Opportunities (Deadline to apply is October 7, 2011)
The Center for Future Health Professionals is pleased to announce a call for proposals for innovative service learning projects. Under the guidance of a faculty member in the School of Medicine or Program in Nursing Sciences, youth (high school and undergraduate students) would be mentored in taking an active role in leading the project. Five mini-grants in the amount of up to $2,000 are available to cover the costs of the project. The project should enrich the students' learning experiences, promote their interest in healthcare, encourage lifelong civic engagement and at the same time strengthen the community.
The proposals should align with the institutional mission: Discover. Teach. Heal.
- Discover: Create innovative ways to connect or collaborate with local organization(s) and contribute to the educational, health and safety needs of the community.
- Teach: Educate youth how to apply their academic disciplines and develop skills to address community needs for larger purposes of civic engagement.
- Heal: Foster the culture of caring and healing by having the students, as part of the project, reach out to the community.
The proposal should summarize the rationale, role of student(s) and a preliminary budget for the project. The student(s) are required to present their findings at a celebratory event at the end of the academic year.
